2nd Edition: Design Miami.Paris 2024 at Hôtel de Maisons

From October 18 to 20, Design Miami.Paris transformed 'Hôtel de Maisons' into a vibrant showcase of unmissable contemporary designers. Nestled in the heart of Paris, this iconic venue—revered by galleries around the world—hosted an exquisite selection of pieces that redefined the art of design. It was a rare occasion for enthusiasts to immerse themselves in the world of these creators, many of whom the public usually encounters only on the runways, now revealing new depths of their creative vision.

Last year was a resounding success, and Design Miami.Paris returned with full force for its second edition this October, following exhibitions in Los Angeles, Basel, and soon Miami in December. The art and design community buzzed with excitement. From October 18 to 20, Paris became the ultimate destination for those with a passion for collectible design—an unmissable moment for aficionados of art furniture.

The iconic gathering at 7 Rue de l'Université in Paris, within the renowned Hôtel de Maisons, offered an innovative exhibition that transported us into a realm of joy and wonder, seamlessly blending the genius of today’s leading designers.

An enchanting and refined setting welcomed some twenty galleries, including Galerie Scene Ouverte, Morentz Gallery, Laffanour | Galerie Downtown, Galerie kreo, Carpenters Workshop Gallery, and Friedman Benda, each claiming their space to create an event not to be missed. It was an extraordinary occasion where the best in collectible design converged under one magical roof.

Beneath the splendid 18th-century architecture and legacy of Jacques Verberckt—the French sculptor, cabinetmaker, and ornamentalist of Flemish origin, known for his Rocaille style—the gallery Friedman Benda offered a captivating glimpse of their contemporary creations. Nearby, Nendo displayed their exquisite ceramic works, while monumental and powerful sculptures by Daniel Arsham made a statement, alongside the innovative pieces by Joris Hendricus Laarman, the Dutch designer, artist, and furniture maker renowned for experimental designs inspired by emerging technologies.

Joining the lineup was MycoWorks, a biotech company based in Union, South Carolina, specializing in sustainable materials that rival leather, a response to growing demand from luxury sectors like Hermès and Ligne Roset. Using their proprietary Fine Mycelium™ technology and the Reishi™ process, they craft a biomaterial with the look, feel, and durability akin to calfskin—a revolutionary advancement for high-end leather.

With biomaterials on the rise and luxury demand growing, the stakes are high for the future of premium leather alternatives.

The 2024 Design Miami.Paris was a refined and successful event, blending elegance, innovation, and inspiration within the world of collectible design.
